Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt & Friend
Eileen (Gilligan) Gauthier, of Lowell, died peacefully March 5, 2020, at Lowell General Hospital, surrounded by her family, aged 61 years. She was the beloved wife (a.k.a. “Mooner”), of Michael Gauthier, with whom she would have celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary in June. Together since the tender age of 15, he was the love of her life. They shared a one-of-a-kind romance, a love everyone hopes to have.
Born in Lowell on May 14, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Pauline (Allen) Gilligan. She attended Lowell schools and was raised in the Highlands neighborhood where she had many friends and fond memories of a happy childhood. She was a communicant of St. Margaret of Scotland Parish.
Mrs. Gauthier worked as a Medical Secretary at Lowell General Hospital for over twenty years. She was dearly loved by her coworkers who will miss her terribly.
Eileen’s world revolved around her daughters Michelle, Allyson, and Katie. While she was certainly the best mom anybody could ask for, she was also their friend, confidant, defender, and unwavering advocate. They shared a deep bond and enjoyed spending as much time together as possible.
More like a second mother than a grandmother, Eileen adored her grandchildren Mark, Mia, Max, Makenna, Maeve, Myles, and Michael. They were her ultimate pride and joy, and she never missed a chance to show them off or share their many funny, endearing stories with everyone she met.
She considered her sisters, Kathleen, Colleen, and Maureen, to be her best, most loyal friends. The Gilligan girl’s bond was unbreakable – a relationship built on mutual love and devotion.
Eileen loved her nieces, Kelley, Erin, Alicia, Meghan, and Amy, always treating them as though they were her own.
Always proud of her Irish heritage, St. Patrick’s Day was her favorite holiday, and she enjoyed celebrating every year with her many close and much-loved cousins.
Eileen loved going to the beach – her happy place - where she had many fond memories of childhood vacations at Hampton Beach. Most of all, she loved spending time with family. Listening to her husband and daughter Katie sing together was one of her greatest joys. She had a wonderful sense of humor, a contagious laugh, and made everyone around her feel at home. She enjoyed the simple things of life and was deeply loved by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Richard Gauthier of Manchester, NH, Larry Richard of Ashby, MA, Dave Bernier of Hudson NH, and Mike Rogers of Lowell. She was predeceased by her daughter, Michelle Lee Francisco Gauthier.
