Loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt

Elsie Spencer (Ruckledge) Faria, a lifelong resident of Lowell, died January 15, 2021, in Lowell, at the age of 100 years young. She was the beloved wife of Lawrence “Larry” Faria, who died in 1975.

Born in Lowell, April 4, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Sr. and Annie (Spencer) Ruckledge. Elsie was educated in Lowell Public Schools and graduated from Lowell High School with the Class of 1937.

For many years, Elsie worked for MACOM in Burlington, MA, until her retirement in 1985. Following retirement, she volunteered at Lowell General Hospital, where she could be found working in the Gift Shop every Monday for over 25 years. Elsie will be greatly missed by her Lawrence Street Church family, where she was a lifelong member and affectionately known as “The Lollipop Lady.”

She enjoyed gardening and spent many years as an active member of the Lowell Garden Club. Elsie also enjoyed reading, walking, traveling, and dining out with family and friends. She was lovingly known as “Mimi” to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family.

She is survived by a son, Kenneth Faria of Lowell, a daughter, Laurel Hansen and her husband Warren of Tewksbury, two granddaughters, Kristen (Hansen) Flynn and her husband Edward, and Meredith Hansen; a great-granddaughter, Caroline Flynn, and a great-grandson, Stephen Flynn. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She was the sister of the late Jeanne Fraser and Thomas Ruckledge Jr., and sister-in-law of the late Georgia Ruckledge.

Funeral services and burial were private. A celebration of Elsie’s life will be held at a later date when family and friends may gather safely in her honor.
