Loving Mother, Grandmother
Great-Grandmother, Great-Great-Grandmother

Frances L. Bell, a lifelong resident of Lowell, MA, died peacefully on May 28, 2021, after a courageously hard-fought battle with cancer, aged 76 years.

Born in Lowell on January 6, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Alice R. and George Thomson. She received her education through the Lowell school system, and remained part of the system in various roles for the rest of her life.

For many years, Fran was an active member of the Collinsville Bible Church of Dracut.

Until illness took its toll, Franny spent her career driving school buses in Lowell, influencing several generations of young minds to better their future. She believed a strong, educated mind and a solid work ethic were key to a successful and happy life – qualities she instilled in the thousands of children who traveled back and forth to school in her care. She strived to impart these same values in her own children and the three generations of grandchildren she helped to raise.

Franny had a passionate love for all things country – from horses and the outdoors, to country music. She also enjoyed learning about Native American culture and listening to music by Elvis. More than anything, time spent with family was the most precious to her, and she valued that time above all else.

She is survived by a son, William H. Bell and his wife Lisa; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Sordiff, Erica Zolt and her fiancé Luis Aponte, Felicia Oliveira and her fiancé Derik Viliott, Brittany Cotreau and her husband Tony, Alexandra Roper and her partner Camden Herlihy, Madison Brown, William A. Bell and his partner Sara Maclean, Zachary Bell, and Jenna-Rae Bell; fourteen great-grandchildren, Serina Yath, Peter LaRoche, Olivia Laroche, Lucia Foresti, Isabella and Elijah Gonzalez, Tony Zolt, Z’Nyahlyze Aponte, Luis Aponte Jr., Rae’Lynne Aponte, Vienna Cotreau, Domenic Cotreau, David A. Herlihy, and Layla Bell, and one great-great-grandson, Kaison An. She was the mother of the late Alice “Gigi” Bell, and sister of the late Glen Thomson.

Friends will be received at the MORSE-BAYLISS Funeral Home, 122 Princeton Boulevard, Lowell, on Sunday from 3 to 7 PM.
