Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather
U.S. Navy Veteran

George Stephen Kovalchek, 73, of Hudson, NH, formerly of Westford and Tyngsboro, died peacefully at home on March 3, 2021, surrounded by family. He was the beloved husband of Nancy Lee Kovalchek, with whom he had shared 53 years of marriage.

Born in Lowell, September 23, 1947, he was the son of the late Helen (McLean) and George Kovalchek. George graduated from Westford Academy with the Class of 1966, where he was a star pitcher for the baseball team.

In 1968, George enlisted in the U.S Navy where he served as Electrician’s Mate aboard the U.S. Navy Aircraft Carrier USS Wasp (CVS-18). Upon his honorable discharge in 1970, he transferred to the Navy Reserves and continued his electrical training. He went on to work for Niagara Electric and Hefco Wiring before starting his own business, Kovalchek Electrical.

Sweethearts since high school, George and Nancy married on June 9, 1968 and settled in Westford to begin their family. Later, they moved to Tyngsboro, and then retired in Hudson, NH.

As their number one fan, George always loved watching his four girls play sports throughout their youth. He enjoyed playing on the Westford Men's Softball League, and always looked forward to his annual trip to the Saragota Race Track. During retirement, George loved to island hop with Nancy to beautiful destinations. Most of all, taking care of his cherished daughters and grandchildren was always his top priority.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of 3 North at St. Joseph's Hospital in Nashua for the outstanding care they provided George during his illness.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters: Debbie Kovalchek of Hooksett, NH, Laury Houghton and her husband Jerry of Beverly, MA, Katie Kovalchek of Wilmington, NC, and Jenny Wall and her husband Jeff of Tyngsboro; six grandchildren, Lauren Dubois, Michael Meehan, Tyler Hildebrandt, Joshua Hildebrandt, Ryan Wall, and Colby Wall; a sister, Janice Renock and her husband Steve of PA, his close cousins, Wayne and Donna Pestana of Hudson, NH, and Gregg Pestana of Mansfield, MA, and many additional cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Eileen VanGemert and David Kovalchek.
