Cherished Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother

Patricia A. “Pat” (Tetro) Witts, a lifelong resident of the Highlands neighborhood of Lowell, died peacefully on September 24, 2020, after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Frederick J. “Fred” Witts.

Pat was born in Lowell on April 26, 1937 to the late Grace (Lanthier) and Harry J. Tetrault. She was raised in Lowell and graduated from Lowell High School with the Class of 1954.

During her married years, she raised five sons in the Highlands where she met many friends through their participation in sports. She especially enjoyed being a member of the popular Lowell Highland Players, a variety show that raised many funds for the Lowell Highlands Little League teams over the years.

As a working mother, she began her career at Nu-Knit Manufacturing, then joined Wang Laboratories as an administrative assistant. Later, she held a position with the Merrimack Valley Visitors and Convention Bureau. Near the end of her working career, she served as a teacher’s assistant at the Daley Middle School.

She loved taking cruises with friends, and spent many winters in Juno Beach, Florida with them. During the last several years, she enjoyed going to Princeton Station on Friday afternoons with Fred and her cousins.

She was the mother of the late Dr. Gary Witts, sister of the late Dorothy Silva and Shirley Maynard, and aunt of the late Barbara Russell.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons, Dennis Witts and Cindy Shumsky of Atkinson, NH, Bruce and Martina Witts of Naples, ME, Randy Witts and Julie Farmer of North Chelmsford, and Jeffrey Witts and Gina Raphanella of Lowell, and Gary’s wife, Laura Witts of Nashua, NH; eleven grandchildren, Jason, Kaitlin, Andrew, Justin, Caroline, Daniel, Ashley, Corey, Collin, Brendan and Jamie, and two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Lily; niece and nephew, Pat Defreitas and James Silva; brother-in-law, John Witts and his wife Joanne, sister-in-law, Sandra McCormack and her husband John; and her dear friend and cousin, Marcia Desilets.

A private graveside ceremony will be held with family members. In lieu of flowers, to honor Pat, please consider a donation to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA, 02284-9168, in memory of her son Gary. The Morse-Bayliss Funeral Home, 122 Princeton Boulevard, Lowell, is honored to assist the family during this difficult time.
